The constructor of the Hansa Brandenburg was the young Ernst Heinkel.
Developed in 1915 by the Hansa and Brandenburg aircraft manufacturing company this aircraft was continually developed further and equipped for all conceivable tasks by various companies for the K. and K. Air Force until 1918. About 1200 aircrafts were made. Even after the war some of them were still used and manufactured in the succession states of the Danube Monarchy.

This Hansa Brandenburg CI is a two seated reconnaissance and bomber aircraft of the K. and K. Air Force and has a 240 hp Austro-Daimler 6-cylinder flight engine. This Phoenix series 29 was built between July and October 1917 at the aircraft plant in Vienna Stadlau. Thus the CI was by far the most built aircraft of the K.and K. Air Force.

The motorization was stepped up further and some series had 240 hp drive power. All engines of the Hansa Brandenburg C1 were manufactured by Austro Daimler at Wiener Neustadt. This engine was developed by Ferdinand Porsche, who was taking the lead also in aircraft engines by designing one of the strongest and most stable engines of World War I.
